What is VINE?
VINE is a free, anonymous information and notification system that provides the public with vital custody status and release information for offenders housed in all of Ohio’s 88 county jails, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) and the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS). The service is made possible through a coordinated effort by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, ODRC, and DYS.
Information: VINE users can find out whether an individual is in custody, and where the individual is being held by calling 1-800-770-0192 or clicking on the VINElink below. Connections with ODRC, DYS, and all of Ohio’s county jail computer systems allow VINE to provide the most up-to-date data available.
Notification: Once an offender is found to be in custody, VINE users can register to be notified by phone or email whenever there is a change in the offender’s status, such as transfer, escape, re-arrests, or death. For those users choosing telephone notification, VINE will continue to call for 24 hours if there is no answer or the line is busy. VINE will also leave a message on an answering machine, and continue to call until the 24 hour period is over.
Information and notification for juvenile offenders is not available online, but can be accessed by calling 1-800-770-0192.
Who can register for VINE?
Anyone! Victims, Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Advocates, Neighbors, Family Members and the General Public
