Special Prosecutions and Criminal Justice Initiatives
The Special Prosecutions and Criminal Justice Initiatives Sections help to protect Ohio's most vulnerable. Combining resources of the Corrections Litigation and Crime Victims sections, experienced criminal prosecutors and investigators assist local prosecutors in child support, physical and sexual abuse cases, Internet and computer crime investigations, and elder abuse cases. The section's areas include cyber-exploitation, non-support, and juvenile gangs. The cyber-exploitation area focuses on computer-related crimes involving child solicitation and pornography. The non-support area provides local prosecutors with support on complex financial investigation, fugitives and cold cases, while the juvenile gang and threat group area gathers intelligence and shares information with local law enforcement on street gangs, biker gangs, and hate groups. The section includes training on the Sex Offender Registration and Notification program, Child Abuse Prosecution Expert Witness Fund, Computer Crimes Task Force, the Gang Unit Access Research Database and the Ohio Criminal Threat and Anti Gang Operational Network, the Ohio Missing Children's Clearinghouse, threat group databases at BCI, and the bureau's Computer Crime Intelligence and Child Exploitation Investigations programs.
