Bureau Of Criminal Identification and Investigation
Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, commonly known as BCI, serves as a vital resource to law-enforcement agencies throughout the state.
BCI scientists and forensic specialists provide a critical service for local law-enforcement officials by analyzing DNA, ballistics and other physical evidence that could make or break a case. Likewise, BCI field agents are always on call to respond to crime scenes and assist local law-enforcement agencies with their investigations. Additionally, BCI is home to the state’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which contains the prints of millions along with their corresponding criminal histories, and the electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification (eSORN) database.
Organization
BCI, headquartered in London, Ohio, also maintains a visible presence across the state with regional laboratories or offices in Bowling Green, Richfield, Boardman and Cambridge. Different crime-fighting tools are located at the various offices. In addition to having multiple locations, BCI is broken up into divisions that allow for the efficient operation of the bureau’s duties.
