Internet Safety - Kid Tips
Surfing the Internet is fun and a great way to talk with friends or learn more about the world around you. But there are a few things that you should keep in mind when using the Internet in order to make your experience safer. Here are a few tips to follow.
- Keep in mind that you never know who the actual person is behind each screen name or E-mail address.
- Never give out any personal information. Because you cannot know who each user actually is, you shouldn't trust them with your personal information. Even telling someone your real name or hometown can help uncover more details about who you are and where to find you.
- Do not respond to an E-mail from someone you don't know
- Do not open attachments from someone you do not know. If you do know the sender, talk to your parents about installing anti-virus software that can scan it before opening.
- If you encounter adult-oriented material, leave the site immediately. If you receive an E-mail that makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents right away.
- Make sure you ask a parent before typing any personal information into a web site or before buying anything online.
- Don't forget to tell your parents if you come across anything that is inappropriate or makes you feel uncomfortable!
