Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the Discretionary Settlement Fund of the Office of the Ohio Attorney General. The Office has limited discretionary funds available to not-for-profit, faith-based and community organizations, including school-based groups. These funds are primarily generated through legal settlements to which the Attorney General is a party. Approximately $50,000 will be available in each funding round. Most awards will be in the $2,000 to $10,000 range. The amount and number of awards are dependent on the availability of funds, and the Attorney General does not guarantee the availability of funds for any round.
The Office of the Ohio Attorney General has developed a process to be used by qualified applicants. This letter, the Application Instructions, Application Cover Page and Application Narrative (found under Related Documents below) contain the information needed. All application materials and program updates are available at www.ag.state.oh.us
The next deadline for applications is July 1, 2008. Applications received in the Office of the Ohio Attorney General postmarked by July 1, 2008 will be considered for funds during that round; applications received following the deadline will be considered in the following round.
In accord with the priority of the Office of the Ohio Attorney General, the priority of the Discretionary Settlement Fund Distribution Committee is to support small budget organizations where the Discretionary Settlement Fund Distribution grant will positively impact the ability of the organization to perform its mission on behalf of the citizens of Ohio. Preference will be given to applications which focus on the law, law enforcement, victims of crime and crime prevention. Eligible not-for-profit organizations with programs which focus on other needs of Ohio citizens are welcome to apply. Priority is given to organizations not already receiving funds through the Office of the Ohio Attorney General.
Prior to submitting an application, please submit the Verification of Registration with the State of Ohio Attorney General’s Office Form which is found under Related Documents below. Please submit the VRSO form a minimum of two weeks prior to the application deadline. Filing this form enables the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to review the registration status of the organization and will facilitate the review of your subsequently submitted application.
Please submit one original and five copies of the completed application to:
Ruth Z. Wilkes
Director of Grants Management - Finance Section
Office of the Ohio Attorney General
30 East Broad Street, 15th Floor
Columbus, OH 43215
Applicants will be notified of the decision in writing within eight weeks after the deadline. At that time, grant recipients will be required to sign the Recipient Agreement with the Ohio Attorney General's Office. At the conclusion of the Grant Period, the grant recipients will be required to file the Final Financial Report which includes copies of purchase orders and expenditure receipts. The Recipient Agreement and the Final Financial Report are available at the AG website for preview prior to application submission. Funds will be distributed to the grant recipient after the Attorney General’s Office receives the signed Recipient Agreement, including the Declaration Regarding Material Assistance/Non-assistance to a Terrorist Organization (Item #6).
Questions about the program may be directed to Ruth Z. Wilkes at

Sincerely,
